Neath Port Talbot Press Release – Cemeteries

Press Release

In common with a number of other Welsh local authorities, Neath Port Talbot Council will be temporarily closing its cemeteries to members of the public (unless they are attending a funeral) to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Tending to graves or memorials at cemeteries is not considered essential, though Council staff will continue to manage the maintenance of cemeteries and their grounds.

“Stopping the spread of Covid-19 and keeping our communities safe has to be our priority.”

The Council operates nine cemeteries in the following areas:
•     Cymmer
•     Goytre
•     Margam
•     Ynysmaerdy
•     Cwmbedd (Giants Grave)
•     Onllwyn
•     Llantwit
•
Carmel
•     Godre’r Graig

The cemeteries will be locked from the 8th April but there will be access for the restricted family members allowed when funerals and burials are taking place during the current emergency.

The closures will remain in place until further notice.
