An Interesting Afternoon for Ynysfach WI Members
On Friday 22nd May, on a warm sunny afternoon, a group of ladies from the Ynysfach WI travelled down to the Aberavon Beach Hotel for afternoon tea, with a difference. This was arranged by the Glamorgan Federation of the WI. It was a competition held annually for members to create an unique craft item. Members are given a theme which this year was entitled ‘CIRCLES & ALL THINGS ROUND’. The afternoon was held to award some of the winners for their craft entries.

There was also a very innovative and amazing display from the award winning cake artist and educator, EMMA JAYNE. She is an internationally recognised cake artist celebrated for her life-like sculpted figures, expressive characters and large scale showpieces. She is Resident Artist for Cake International and teaches both online and in person making advanced techniques feel accessible enjoyable and achievable for all skill levels. Her work is known for its meticulous detail, warm teaching style and the joy she brings to every project.

The following are photographs of some of her creations:

She gave a very interesting talk on how she started as an artist and how she progressed to become world famous with world status (classed as being third in the world for her artistry). She described that she uses a mixture of icing paste and white chocolate over a frame.
Emma Jayne clearly showed how passionate she is and enjoys her work along with her husband who supports her in every way. Her work is truly extraordinary and her achievements are recognised by all including Royalty.

Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed after her talk.

Following the afternoon tea there were some discussions from the judging panel regarding the West Glamorgan Craft Entries into the Royal Welsh Show. There was only one entry for the Rose Bowl Cup (Flowers), and the Brecon Cup (the Cooperative) was won by Swansea Central WI. The presentations were awarded and given to the winning entries.
The raffle was drawn and two members, Elizabeth Jones, and Valerie Davies from the Ynysfach WI were lucky winners.
It was a surprisingly different day which was enjoyed by all who attended.
