Colourful Character

I met this lovely gent on the old road between Resolven and Abergarwed early this morning

I stopped the car and asked him if he would like his photo taken.  He agreed and went on to say

he was doing long walks  for the homeless and to make people aware what tough times they are going through.

Resolven School photos from Ron Powell

Hello Anita

Found this photograph recently which might be of interest. It was my first year at school, the year being 1938.

Now retired living in South Manchester.

Best wishes and thank you for the District News which I read with great interest.

Ron Powell, born in 2 John Street

Just found another two

In the photo of the first year at school, I’m on the right in the second row. I’m the little fella with the very worried look.

In the photo of the cricket team, I’m in the front row and 2nd from the right.

In the other, that is our much feared and respected head master Evan Jenkins, who wrote some good commendations for my CVs. Again, I am 2nd on the right; I seem to gravitate towards that place, I don’t know why. Our teacher in our final year was Arthur Morris ,such a lovely man. He was probably taking the photograph, being a keen photographer and of art generally.

Thanks for sharing these delightful pictures with us, Ron

Sardis Rainbow Tots

Rainbow Tots is a playgroup organised by Sardis Church every Monday morning. This week, I popped in and was thrilled to see a book presentation for the toddlers who are coming to the end of their playgroup days and are preparing for nursery school in September. Each child was presented with a ‘leaving ‘gift of a book and they were thrilled to be called by their name to receive it.

THEO BEING PRESENTED WITH HIS BOOK

Rainbow tots isn’t only for toddler playtime, it’s a good meeting place for young mothers or even babysitting grandmothers to meet for a chat and to share what’s going on in the village.

OLIVIA WAS THRILLED WITH HER GIFT

Watching the children receive their books took me back many years to the annual book giving in the Salvation Army. Still got one of mine – slightly battered and well used by me, my children, my nieces, and now back in the house for my grandchildren.

New Vale of Neath Medical Centre Opening

The Vale of Neath Practice are relocating to the new Vale Of Neath Medical Centre on Friday 16thAugust and Saturday 17th August, and be ready to accept patients on Monday 19th August 2019.

The practice has prepared information letters, that Swansea Bay Health Board have kindly agreed to translate and post to all our “heads of household”. The letters should be received within the next week or two.

DANSA have been in discussion with Swansea Bay Health Board and some local councillors regarding transport, and are putting in place a community shuttle car that will ferry patients between the new health centre and the two existing health centre locations in Resolven and Glynneath. I understand a trial run is being organised for Tuesday 23rdJuly.

The letter that is being sent to our “heads of household” will also include details of a public open day that is being organised by the Health Board
